Maritime museum - Drassanes Reials. The Royal Shipyards is located in the Ciutat Vella (old city) in the district called La Raval close to the harbour end of La Rambla and near to the Christopher Columbus monument. The Royal shipyards were constructed in 1378, by agreement of King Pere IV, the Consell de Cent (Council of One Hundred) and the Diputació del General (Council of the General) In 1993, centuries later, the Consorci de les Drassanes Reials i Museu Marítim de Barcelona (Barcelona Shipyard and Maritime Museum Consortium) was formed to develop and maintain the buildings and the Barcelona Maritime Museum. The Barcelona Royal Shipyards also has exhibition space Sala Marquès de Comillas and gardens and is often used for events and small trade fairs.
