What is the Barcelona tourist tax. Visitors to Barcelona pay a tourist tax for each night stayed in Barcelona in any form of tourist accommodation like campsites, hotels, guestrooms and on cruise ships. Barcelona city charges a tourist tax that is normally already included in your Barcelona accommoation prices (but can be charged separately). 

2024 rates:

The Barcelona city council made changes in the 2025 tax regulations The most significant change is the increase in the tourist tax cap from €4 to €8, allowing for higher tourist charges from 2025. The Barcelona tourist tax is charged on the accommodation and paid at check out along with the rest of the services and room charges.

If you pre-book then it should be specified in your booking confirmation. In Spanish, the tourist tax is called "la tasa turística". The tourist tax is higher in the city of Barcelona than in other regions of Barcelona and it varies according to type of accommodation.

The most expensive accommation charges the most tax. Depending on the type of accommodation, the tourist tax will be greater or smaller.

Children under 17 do not pay tourist tax. The tourist tax is only applied for 7 days of your stay.

€3.50 5-star hotel, grand luxury, luxury campsite and equivalent category establishment or equipment
€1.70 4-star and 4-star superior hotel, establishment or facilities of equivalent category
€2.25 Accommodation for tourist use
€1 Rest of accommodation and equipment

Cruise ship:

€3 More than 12 hours
€1 12 hours or less 

The 2024 tourist taxes in the rest of Catalonia are:

€3.00 5-star hotel, great luxury, luxury camping and establishment or equipment of equivalent category
€1.20 4-star and 4-star superior hotel, establishment or facilities of equivalent category
€1 Accommodation for tourist use
€0.60 Rest of accommodation and facilities

Cruise ship:

€3 More than 12 hours
€1 12 hours or less
